Hello again. I'm still on this Demon Slayer Cosplay Knitting kick. But perhaps this will be more accessible. Maybe. I've been burned before. I need to rest my brain and try something a little easier to comprehend than socks.
For real, let's talk about knitting belts, obi, and other waist-related accessories. Thankfully, all demon slayers have a uniform belt. I have not found one that has any special doo-dads or designs. And if there are, don't tell me about them.
Uniform Belts
|
Are the trouser loops white? Who dressed you? |
These are white belts about 1.5 - 2.5 inches thick (relatively speaking). The buckle is a rectangular shape, and it goes into white loops...which kind of doesn't make sense since the pants are black. The hell do those loops come from? I know belts sometimes have a sliding loop but do they have two!? (Shhh...don't ask questions...it upsets us.) Anyway, knitting would basically consist of knitting a length of fabric that could go around your waist. For extra fun, you may attach a loop of fabric (a sword frog to be technical) to hold the sword on the inside of the belt. (Because dammit Kyojuro...that sheath is NOT going to stay on once the sword is drawn. Although maybe that's the point. SHUT UP!) The buckle would have to be purchased or
3D printed. You'd want to get one with a post in the middle, then either knit directly on or attach after you've finished knitting. There's not really any particular pattern you'd need, but if you want some guidance on knitting a plain belt, these patterns may offer some good advice for making belts and attaching buckles.
Obi Belts
|
Thank goodness the back is hidden by the coat! |
I know it's just Obi. But there are a couple ways to approach this in knitting.
- Make a double-knit obi length of fabric. You'll be knitting until the end of time, btw.
- Make a wrap belt.
- Make a belly warmer or haramaki
These belts would suit characters that do NOT wear the uniform, such as Nezuko, Lady Tamayo, Ruka Rengoku, Female Disguised Muzan and cross-dressed Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke. You could have a lot of fun making obi inspired by characters, but I'm leaving that to you. I'm not making charts!
Suggested Patterns:
The patterns mostly use the following techniques:
Fur Belt
|
Technically a belt I guess. |
Inosuke has been left out of most of these knitting projects since he wears so little. However, the fur belt CAN BE KNIT! believe it or not. You would be using faux fur yarn. It can be made from patterns of a belly warmer belt, skirt, or shoulder wrap.
And that about wraps it up for this post. Pretty low-key compared to the other posts. However, I'll continue to torture myself...I mean...research how to knit other costumed aspects. I'm also researching a couple other anime series to potentially knit. Wish me luck...
