Another little side jaunt into the progress and pitfalls of the project.
💢 Once again, I made an error in my calculations. (Math and I need couples counseling.) However, it's not just the number that was off but the fabric too. When I was first cutting the pattern I did not factor in the length of the sleeves very well. I have one outer sleeve and one sleeve lining.
In my head I thought, I should be able to get the other sleeve and lining with about a yard more fabric from a 60" bolt. I didn't want to spend $12 per yard again so I went with the slightly cheaper $6 version on fabric.com. And then I just had to wait for it to arrive.
I got it on Saturday after our mini-winter in Texas when the leasing office was open again. When I opened the bag, I noted that this version of Peachskin fabric was thinner than the one I was using everywhere else. And what was worse, I laid the pattern piece and realize...shoot...I can only get ONE sleeve out of this, not two.
So, I went back to the Joann website and ordered two more yards of the fabric I had gotten before. I picked it up the other day. Did a quick check to make sure I had enough and I do. I could use the oopsie fabric for a sleeve lining or something else completely.
But for now...now...I FINALLY have the fabric I need to finish cutting out the pattern pieces which I can then dye and sew together.
😌 On the more positive side, I'm making steady progress with knitting the tail. I'm halfway through my first ball of faux fur yarn and I am getting better at knitting...only slightly.
I have also cast on and knit a couple rows of my Hyrule Warriors Scarf.
This scarf. |
Learned a couple techniques for casting on some of which work better for me than others. I had to re-cast this scarf a couple times because the first technique was too loose and really, more for someone who has better control of their yarn tension. I also was using interchangeable needles and they kept getting unscrewed and falling off. 😠Turns out the length of the loop on the circle needles does matter. It's funny. Pretty much all my knitting so far has been In the Round knitting. I haven't done flat knitting yet!
And next post will probably be another needle-art heavy post. The madness has finally sort of released me now that I am actually doing the knitting and not just thinking about it and planning. 😅
